The Iranian President is Visiting Latin America

Our country needs to start taking interest in the countries nearby us. I am not talking Monroe Doctrine, but we need to express our interests. Just merely ignoring the threat that Iran poses by meeting Chavez and Ortega will do nothing but give him more power and make us look more weak. There will be someone at the inauguration for Ortega from the US embassy. Although that person is not the ambassador, no one should be there standing only feet away from the Iranian President. We should pull out of Nicaragua all together. They are clearly not our friend if they invited that despot from Iran.

I am still trying to make up my mind if we should go to war with Iran. I don’t think it has come to that yet. But they have tried everything to provoke us. They are like little kids poking at your side. At what point to you slap that kid in the hand and tell him to quit? If the kid has a fit, you send him to his room. But taking away his things sometimes doesn’t change him. It only makes him show more persistence to get his way. This is what Iran is doing. We already know that they don’t have support in the international community. We already know that they have very little defense if we should decide to invade. We don’t want to look like bullies. But we don’t want them to get a chance to do something to their neighbors. If they want nuclear power, thats great. I have no problem with it. But the fact that their facilities are hidden and they don’t cooperate gives too much suspicion.

I really hope that our government can find a way to resolve this problem. I fear that Iran is doing nothing but making it worse for their people. They know they can’t finish a war if they start one. So what do we do? Ignore them? Keep sanctioning them?

Downturn Proof of the Failure of Free Market? Response to Reuters

Today I read an article from Reuters that states that the downturn in the economy is proof that the free market is a failure. My first thought was…here we go, let’s give socialism a try…But I want to rebutt that article by telling them to actually READ history books. Thanks to the free market, the United States has come back from severe downturns several times in the past 100 years. That’s right, the failed free market turned around and turned out not to be failure after all. Regulatory measures have been to blame on many ocassions. Also, with a free market there are ups and downs…bubbles burst…the market corrects itself. But in a free market everyone has the opportunity to compete and to succeed. If you fail, you fail…move on. If you are a success…then good job! Who wants a world where there is no failure, no risk, no success stories? Natural Laws – Human Philosophy or Divine Law?

When people argue that they have rights, where do they come from? If you read a lot history books, many of our great leaders referred to Natural Laws when they were constructing laws. Such as the phrase, “endowed by our creator unalienable rights….” Are our laws given only by our creator or is there some sense of instict or human morality that guides us? I’m going to argue against instinct because that is more of an animal behavior to me. Human morality would come from a civilized human, but where did they get their morality? Their parents? Teachers? Government? If so, then who taught those parents, teachers and government morality? So you see where I’m going with this? I am not arguing for or against Natural Laws coming from either religion or just natural human instinct. But there has to be some basis for why we think things are right or wrong and why someone decided to make those laws in a civilization.

The U.S. Constitution

I’ll make this quick…What was the original intent of the U.S. Constitution? Was it just an experiment ment to be a living document or the permanent founding principles that we should continue to live by? I only want to get this thing started and I think this would be a great start. I will enjoy reading your answers.
